for a glider pilot / sklandytojai

That last scarf in 2009, and it was meant to be this azure scarf with little gliders ;) those who love gliding should like this scarf as well ;) even if it is rather girlish attitude towards gliding sport :D through the cloud streets :)

polymer clay... / modelinas...

Earrings again, though different this time, new little series of my so called "near-ears" :)
Because they don't remind ear rings, they are just near ear :D

Vėl auskarai, tik kitokio pobūdžio šiek tiek, nauja nedidelė partija mano vadinamų "prieausiukų" :) nes nelabai jie "karo" kad galėtų būti auskarai :D

And some "pancakes" so called for the form, that suddenly became popular among my mum's work colleagues :)

Ir "blyneliai" kurie staiga tapo populiarūs mano mamos bendradarbių tarpe :)

Earrings / auskarai

The first day of holidays... I was making earrings :D it is a strange thing, lately, if I sit down to create something, I don't get up until I'm so tired that I cannot work anymore. Such creative days happen from time to time, this time I also "overdosed" of earrings. There were some I remade, that I didn't like the construction... but I think that during the festive time sooner or later they all will find their place...

Pirmoji atostogų diena.... vėriau auskarus :D auskarai keistas dalykas, paskutiniu metu, jeigu tik prisėdu verti ko nors, tai neatsikeliu, kol rankos ima drebėti ir jau nebegaliu nieko dirbti, būna tokių kūrybinių dienų, taigi vėl šiek tiek padauginau auskarų, nors kai kuriuos perdariau, kur radau anksčiau nepatiko konstrukcija... bet, manau, šiuo švenčių laikotarpiu ar kada vėliau, jie ras savo vietą...

Notebook adventures / sąsiuvinių nuotykiai

The last lecture of this semester ended recently, so now I took a look of what happenned in my notebooks :) well, actually nothing so special, but today the upcoming holidays came out... the little dwarves came back :D they come to live in the margins of notebooks before Christmas...

Neseniai baigėsi paskutinė paskaita šį semestrą, todėl apžvelgiau, kas gero įvyko mano sąsiuviniuose, iš tiesų, nieko ypatingo, ar labai kūrybingo, bet šiandien vėl išlindo švenčių ir atostogų laukimas... grįžo nykštukai :D kurie visada apsigyvena paraštėse prieš Kalėdas...

and the other adventures...

ir kiti nuotykiai...

the green / žaluma

A little bit of greenness from our kitchen, some wheat grains sprouted... a relief for the eye, when it is so grey outdoors :) and no other bigger news so far... we look forward to holidays... then there will come more freshness :p

"near-ears" stud earrings / prieausiukai

Good evening,
jewelry again, this time my polymer clay creations, maybe some ornaments are already not new, but while I still like them and I still have them, I use the same. And again my favorite tiny earrings near ear, this time they became really mini mini :) it was rather difficult to handle them for polishing, but I like the result :) I have more of similar, but I wait for inspiration and time to polish and varnish them...

Labas vakaras,
vėl papuošalai, šį kartą modelinas. Gal jau matyti ornamentai, tiesiog, kol man jie patinka ir kol turiu, tol naudoju tas pačias ornamentų dešrytes, ir vėl mano mėgstami miniatiūriniai auskariukai prie ausies, šį kart kai kurie jau visai tapę mini mini :) buvo gana sudėtinga sučiupinėti šlifuoti juos, bet man visai patinka rezultatas :) dar turiu tokių panašių, tik laukiu, kada ateis įkvėpimas juos šlifuoti ir lakuoti...

Earrings / auskarai

My mum brought me her colleague's watch with a demand to make matching earrings... so, I tried to choose matching pearls and matching Swarovski crystals and this is the result :)
P.S. I'm becoming a personal jeweller for my mum's colleagues :D

Steam fixed colors. First try / garais fiksuojami dažai. I bandymas

Few weeks ago I bought my long dreamed steam fixed silk colors... so, finally I found the occassion to try them, even if the drawing itself is nothing special, I was very inpatient to do it, to see the result, and I'm very happy with it.
The fixing process which seemed a very complex process turned out perfectly, I have put the scarf between to fabric pieces, wrapped it, then wrapped all in baking paper and put to the lightly pressured steam pot, after two hours of steaming I took all out, washed it and Voila, bright colors, beautiful shine.
The fixing process is not so difficult as it seemed :p I lik the colors, I like the most how the silk looks after steaming :))) this is for sure not the last work using this dye :)

Prieš kelias savaites nusipirkau savo ilgai išsvajotų dažų fiksuojamų garais... taigi, pagaliau ištaikiau progą juos išbandyti, nors skarelė nieko ypatingo pats piešinys, netgi kai kur kontūrą tikrai labai negrabiai užtepiau, dėl to nekantravimo spalvint :D

Peacock / povas

Finally the peacock is finished, I was very happy to see that fixing went out smoothly and colours didn't change after washing. Once I spoiled a silk scarf, because I fixed colors badly (I noticed after that the iron setting was not on the highest, and such difference has cost me two days work), and I'm now always a bit worried when I wash them... But I learn from the errors :) I like the most the background gradient color, when wrapped it looks nice too.

Reading various books, articles online and by my personal experience, I collected some information on colors and I found that some of this information could be useful to others and decided to share it. It is possible to have some innate possibility to feel the color, but, in my opinion, it is as well possible to learn and train the sense of color. I collected a couple of basic notions, principles and rules to get to know and understand working with colors.

First, it is important to know which are the qualities that describe the color: hue, brightness and saturation.
      1. Hue is the main thing describing a color as first we have to distinguish if it is red, blue, green or yellow green, rosy violet.
     2. Value describes the brightness of the color, in other words, how much of pure white or black there is in the color.
     3. Saturation, or intensity, describes the color in relation to gray of the same tone - that is, if the color is pure or it has grey in it.

Pirmiausia svarbu žinoti pagrindines spalvą apibūdinančias savybes: atspalvis, tonas ir ryškumas.
When we see or imagine a color which we want to represent, we first have to tell ourselves what is the hue and what is the value - is it lighter or darker color than the pure hue. The way to mix the paint depends on these things.

Value of the color / Spalvos tonas

Saturation / Ryškumas

Color wheel / Spalvų ratas

The main model in color theory is a color wheel. The main (primary) colors are yellow, red and blue, we can never get those colors by mixing, we have to have them pure. In theory, the three primary colors, in addition to white and black, should suffice to mix all other possible colors that there exist (simple color printers work this way).

However, in practice, it is not an easy task for artists as there are still no perfect and stable pigments discovered and we need more paint colors to get all the possible hues. Yellow pigments are close to perfect yellow, the problems accumulate when we search for primary red and it is told that the perfect blue does not exist at all.

Tačiau tapytojams ir piešėjams tenka nusivilti, nes nėra atrasti dailininkams naudoti tinkami šių spalvų pigmentai, todėl praktikoje, norint išgauti norimus atspalvius, prireikia ir daugiau dažų spalvų. Geltoni pigmentai yra arti teorinės geltonos, daugiau problemų iškyla ieškant pagrindinės raudonos, o mėlynos, kuri tiktų visiems atspalviams išgauti, teigiama, netgi visai neįmanoma rasti.

In the color wheel below there are twelve colors. There are three primary colors as told earlier, there are three secondary colors: orange, violet and green. As well there are six tertiary colors: yellow orange, red orange, blue violet and etc. We could add more hues on the color wheel, however the version of twelve is the most common.

Pateiktame spalvų rate matome dvylika spalvų. Be trijų pagrindinių, jį sudaro trys antrinės spalvos: oranžinė, violetinė ir žalia. Papildomai dar išskiriame šešias tretines spalvas: geltonai oranžinę, raudonai oranžinę, mėlynai violetinę ir t.t. Žinoma, galima išskirti dar daugiau atspalvių, tačiau populiariausias yra dvylikos spalvų ratas.

Complementary colors / Papildomosios spalvos

Colors situated on opposite sides of color wheel are called complementary, they are, for example, red and green, yellow and purple, yellow green, red violet, etc. The complementary colors create strongest contrast when placed near each other, and reduce the intensity of one another if mixed. That is, if we want a muted yellow, we can add purple to it, if we want to reduce intensity of blue, we add orange. From this principle goes the rule that if we want to keep the colors bright in the painting, we should not mix more than two primary colors and do not mix complementary colors. Even if it may seem opposite, we do not always get a bright color by mixing two other bright colors. For example, if we take bright pink and mix it with bright sea green, we will get something close to grey, as pink is a bright red and sea green - a mix of yellow and blue, therefore, when we mix them we mix all primary colors and they all cancel the brightness of one another.

Lightening or darkening a color / Spalvų šviesinimas arba tamsinimas

It would seem that to lighten the color we should always add white and to darken - black. However, by adding white, we do not only lighten the color, but make it cooler and it gets more of what we call pastel color. Therefore, to lighten warm colors such as red, orange, brown, green without loosing the saturation and vividness, it is best to add yellow. If the paint is transparent do not forget an option to add a bit of mixing medium (water for watercolor, in example) to make the color lighter when painting on white background. Similar problems appear when we darken the color with black, we might get a "mudded", grey color. Therefore, to darken the grey or red it is better to add brown, to darken light blue or violet - to add blue. These changes are necessary due to the same thing, that pigments are not close to theoretical pure colors.
Another small rule of mixing pastel colors: it is always better to start from white and add little quantities of colors, as, if we start other way round, we risk to consume more white paint to get the required lightness.

Colors which are not on color wheel / Spalvos, kurių nėra spalvų rate

You might miss some of the colors when looking at the color wheel. Lets say, sand, but it is simply muted bright orange and the mixing to get it would be the following: we add some red to yellow, add white and finally a bit of blue violet (that is blue mixed with a bit of red), which is complementary to yellow orange. Lets imagine olive green: we mix some blue into yellow, add white and a bit of rose violet (that is red mixed with blue), to reduce the intensity of yellow green.

Therefore, following the rules we are able to get all possible hues, tones, however it might by grey and muddy than the color we seek for as the pigments do not represent fully the primary colors in theory. Therefore, in reality, to get a nice bright orange it might be easier to buy orange paint instead of mixing yellow and red. However, as big as assortment of available pigments might be, they will never fully represent all colors we see around us. Secondly, we do not want to see only the, let's say, fifteen hues from company palette in all our works. Therefore, it is necessary to master the color mixing, learn to notice the variety of colors around us, understand the relations between them to work with color successfully. My advice would be to start painting with fewer colors (start with yellow, couple of different reds (warmer and cooler) and a couple of blue accordingly. And as you work and create you will notice yourself what are the limits of your paint color palette and what are the hues that you need to buy additionally or simply to make the mixing quicker.

the earring weekend / auskarų savaitgalis...

During the saturday trip to Vilnius I bought few new beads and when I came home I was very inspired to make earrings :D maybe it was not extremely creative, but I used a part of my bead collection. I'm not a serious jewelry artist, but I can't resist buying some nice beads :)

Šeštadienį nusipirkau Vilniuje kelis naujus karoliukus, ir grįžus namo pradėjau gaminti auskarus, užėjo tikras įkvėpimas :D gal neypatingai kūrybingas, bet apnaudojau šiek tiek savo karoliukų atsargas, kurių neiškentus vis prisipirkus buvau... mamos bendradarbės buvo patenkintos, nes seniai buvo prašiusios, kad ką nors mama atneštų parodyt :)

Peacock / povas

My newest silk work... I asked my boyfriend to send me something to inspire me, and he sent a photo of a peacock... I thought, why not, I never drew a peacock... :) so this is my interpretation, I told it few times in various posts in other sites, but I really think that some sunset of an exotic faraway land is reflected in its eye... and those who are interested in my previous silk works, check my flickr album (the link on the right) :)

Hello! / Sveiki!

Hello, my first message for my new blog :)
Welcome all in my blog :) you can see more of my works, created before opening of this blog in my flickr album (link on the right).
I'm a girl from Kaunas, a city in the heart of Lithuania. I graduated from Kaunas Art School, then studied Political Sciences in Vilnius, the capital, and now came back to my hometown for my master in East Asia Region studies. I'm interested in a lot of things, that are very different or even contradicting at times. I have a not ending list of ideas, but not so much free time to implement, but I don't loose hope that sooner or later I will fullfil all my crazy and not so crazy ideas and plans. :) But here you will not see anything about politics, only my artistic side ;)
